Berlin: Where Spiritual Depth Meets Industrial Edge — A Techno Exploration
After Athens, Berlin greeted me with a raw, powerful energy, one that’s deeply rooted in its past yet constantly evolving. This city has an undeniable pulse, a rhythm that’s both spiritual and mechanical, chaotic and precise. It didn’t take long for me to realize that Berlin’s unique combination of gritty industrial landscapes and tranquil, spiritual corners would become the perfect inspiration for my next experimental and driving techno track.
Teufelsberg: The Ghost of the Cold War
One of the first places I explored was Teufelsberg, an abandoned Cold War listening station built on a man-made hill of WWII rubble. The decaying structure, once used for surveillance, now stands as a haunting monument to the past. Walking through the graffiti-covered halls, the wind howling through broken windows, I could feel the ghosts of history around me. The eerie silence, punctuated by the distant hum of the city, created a kind of dissonance that resonated deeply. It’s this dissonance that forms the foundation of my track - heavy, distorted basslines and fragmented rhythms that mimic the decaying machinery and the weight of the past. The towering structures and broken satellite domes added a sense of spatial vastness, which inspired me to incorporate wide, atmospheric synths that echo through the track like the distant memories of a forgotten era.
Berghain: The Heart of Techno
No trip to Berlin would be complete without a pilgrimage to Berghain the most iconic techno club in the world. Stepping inside, you’re immediately enveloped by the deep, relentless bass that reverberates through your entire being. The club’s brutalist architecture - a former power plant - adds to the sense of industrial intensity. Here, the energy is primal, and time ceases to exist as the crowd loses itself in the music. This experience became a key influence on my track’s relentless, driving rhythm. The industrial setting of Berghain inspired me to use metallic, percussive elements that hit with precision, like the pounding of machines in a factory. The crowd’s energy, a collective experience of release and transcendence, translated into the hypnotic groove of the track, keeping listeners locked into the beat as if they, too, were inside those walls.
Spreepark: Abandoned Amusement and Surrealism
I also found inspiration in Spreepark, an abandoned amusement park on the outskirts of the city. Once filled with joy and laughter, the rusting Ferris wheel and decaying rollercoasters now stand eerily still, overgrown by nature. This surreal blend of forgotten fun and quiet desolation sparked something unexpected in my creative process. I wanted to capture that duality - the innocence of the park’s past, contrasted with its present state of eerie calm. This gave rise to the more experimental parts of my track: light, playful melodies that quickly dissolve into dissonance, reflecting the tension between past joy and present decay. The occasional eerie sound effects, like the creak of an old ride or the wind through abandoned structures, add to the haunting atmosphere.
The Berlin Wall Memorial: Divided Yet United
Finally, a visit to the Berlin Wall Memorial reminded me of the city’s history of division and unity. The wall, now mostly gone, is a symbol of resistance, struggle, and eventual freedom. The contrast between the stark concrete remains and the thriving, unified city that surrounds it became a metaphor for tension and resolution in my music. This inspired the building tension in the track — a gradual layering of sounds and rhythms that eventually culminate in a euphoric release, much like the fall of the wall itself. The sense of overcoming barriers, both physical and emotional, lent the track a powerful, uplifting quality.

Berlin has given me a wealth of inspiration, from its industrial ruins to its spiritual scars, all of which have found their way into my music. The track that has emerged from my time here is dark, intense, yet filled with moments of transcendence - just like the city itself. On to the next destination, but Berlin will leave its mark on every beat I create.
